Finally, the prospect of new editions of the Garden of Delights

We haven`t seen each other for quite some time. Corona is the culprit of course, but we’ve had time to think and we decided to no let it derail our plans any longer. No, not a digital festival, but a real live moment in which you will enjoy culture in combination with nature.

How do we intend to do that?

We are organizing a number of cultural walks on various estates in Overijssel and hopefully also in Gelderland (this application is still pending with the province). One artist (or collective) will work on one estate and imagine a way to give us his / her / their view on the history, the residents, or perhaps the future of the place. We are in full discussion with estates and we are in the process of raising the funds to make all of this possible. The province of Overijssel fully supports our project, so we have started setting up the first five walks. As soon as a walk has been completed, you will receive a message about this via our newsletter and/or our social media.

To get in the mood, we have made a short movie based on photo material from previous editions.

We hope to be able to delight you with a first walk soon!

Your help is still needed

Donatie QR code Again this year, we can participate in the Anjercollecte of the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. Will you help? Your donation will benefit the artists who will work for the Garden of Delights.

Every donation is very welcome. You only have to scan the displayed QR code with your phone and the rest will be self-explanatory.

Thanks in advance for your contribution!

On Sunday, July 26th, our colleagues from the Heimland festival organize a nice program with tasty food in the garden of the Nijenhuis castle in Diepenheim.

The setting is a relaxed picnic where visitors are asked to bring their own plate, cutlery and glass.

To be on the program:
Ekaterina Leventhal - mezzo soprano and harpist
Arnhem Girls - dance
André Manuel - Recht voor z`n raap muziek in teder Twents

The Garden of Delights 2019 - Water and Fire

We look back on a very special edition of De Tuin der Lusten on 12, 13 and 14 December.

A winter edition that has warmed our hearts and we will not soon forget.

The fire led the visitors past the performances and installations of De Waterlanders and Eye-Burn, who have created a unique experience on the estate.

With the contributions of Anne Leijdekkers, Compagnie Kairos, DeJong & DeWitte, Gertjan Adema, Lilli Döscher, Dina and the ArtEZ students, this magical winter walk was complete.

The delicious tapas from Butifarra were a treat for the inner being.

We thank the host, hostess and the team of Den Alerdinck for the hospitality, the artists for their boundless commitment, the many volunteers for their inexhaustible enthusiasm, the sponsors for the realization of this long-held wish and the public for their open-mindedness and curiosity!

See you next The Garden of Delights!

We’ve invited artists` collectives Waterlanders and Eye-Burn to create a winter walk full of light, sound and fire with their beautiful art installations and performances. Under the title STEAM, they will play with water and fire.

The beautiful surroundings of this ‘Havezate’ are the perfect scenery for a heartwarming walk through the orchard, hidden alleys, along the waterside and underneath the winter trees.

The Garden of Delights 2019

The Garden of Delights this year will take place from 12 to 14 December 2019.
We are all very welcome on the Den Alerdinck estate in Laag Zuthem in the municipality of Raalte.

We are extremely early with this news, but actually a bit late because this means that we will not make an edition this spring. We think that is a shame and we will miss it. We`ll get something beautiful in return. It is a long-held wish to create a special The Garden of Delights full of light, sound and fire. A warm walk on a fresh evening with, of course, good care for the inner person.

We have started.
We walk the route with artists and cooks and piece by piece each part of the puzzle gets in place. In the next months you will hear from us on our Facebook page;
If you click on `follow` you are always informed and we will keep sending a newsletter for when we really have something important to say.

We hope to see you in December and wish you a nice summer.
Hevezate Den Alerdinck

Twentieth edition filled with surprises

Last weekend the twentieth edition of De Tuin der Lusten took place at Buitenplaats Spijkerbosch in Olst. In spite of the rainy weather, more than a hundred visitors per evening joined the three-course dinner. Visitors braved the muddy paths for two dance and acrobatics performances in the open air in the different corners of the estate. Ici`bas played her acrobatic dance performance on Friday, September 29 for the hundredth time. Cie Vendeval, with her performance based on interviews with survivors of concentration camps, received a great deal of admiration from the moved attendees.

Buitenplaats Spijkerbosch, Olst opens their doors especially for The Garden of Earthly Delights festival

September 28, 29 and 30 that Garden of Earthly Delights festival travels to Olst to serve a culinary and cultural six-course-menu. A privately owned estate opens for the public for three nights only, to offer the audience an unforgettable experience. Art, theatre and Mediterranean food will fight for your attention in six enticing courses. Everything is inspired by the estate and it`s inhabitants.

A warm early summer evening. Carefree enjoyment of a formidable three-course dinner. A moment of reflection by comedian Patrick Nederkoorn, with a flaming and humorous argument about the black-and-white thinking that we all own. Two beautiful and very different theater performances. Long after-bubbling at the atmospheric bar by the campfire, under the stars. `De Tuin der Lusten` has started at Landgoed Den Dam in Eefde.

The French dancer and choreographer Patrice de Benedetti brings the performance Jean, a powerful and moving performance about war and the prejudices about others. The performance is a tribute to his father and you can taste that in his game.

After the impressive Jean opens The Table of Delights, a fine combination of the best of Portuguese cuisine, unwind and meet with other guests. Slowly the darkness and re-create lights, fire pits and the flames of the coffee grinding plant fall into the fairy tale garden.

After a delicious hot cup of coffee and a freshly baked dessert, everyone stands in front of Asterions Hus, a rich but humorous retelling of Romeo & Julia in twenty-four razor-sharp scenes.
Then it is time for wine, chocolate milk with or without rum and a good conversation.

In Eefde and Hengelo (Gld) this year is the special theater festival that takes place on private estates. The Garden of Delights is an intimate and small-scale festival with a delicious dinner, innovative international theater, dance and visual arts in the most beautiful gardens of our country. They are quiet and quiet places, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. From 5 to 7 May the festival is a guest at Landgoed Den Dam in Eefde. From 2 to 4 June, performances will be played at Landgoed Zelle in Hengelo (Gld).

Extra special this year is the new concept of De Tuin der Lusten: 200 visitors take part together all evening. Butifarra cooks a delicious dinner and artists from Denmark, France, Spain, Argentina and our own country show their skills. The dinner with excellent dishes, called The Table of Delights, is served at long tables in an inspiring place. Wonderful evenings to escape in the atmosphere of De Tuin der Lusten.

5 to 7 May - Landgoed Den Dam, Eefde
In the first weekend of May the French dancer and choreographer Patrice de Benedetti and the Danish theater company Asterions Hus travel to Landgoed Den Dam in Eefde. There Patrice de Benedetti plays a physical performance about his father, who suddenly had to become a soldier in the Second World War. With power and tenderness, the dancer shows notions of hope, gifts, relationships and black-and-white thinking. Asterions Hus brings a surreal version of the famous love story Romeo & Juliet. A lively and humorous performance with 24 scenes, 24 detours and 24 celebrations of love.

2 to 4 June - Landgoed Zelle, Hengelo
Compagnie Woest will take you on a course on the estate in the first weekend of June. Everything happens and together with the six characters you end up in absurd situations, both humorous and tragic. A surprising and stimulating performance! In addition, the French-Argentinian HURyCAN plays a brand new performance that they have never shown before. With their previous performance, the popular duo was already on view at Landgoed De Wildenborch in 2014.

This year there will again be two Gardens of Delights: a Dutch and a French edition.

From 15 to 18 May, the festival De Tuin der Lusten will take place in the gardens of Kasteel de Wildenborch in Vorden. If you walk through the beautifully maintained gardens of the Wildenborch you imagine yourself in paradise and the glorious past of this medieval robbery lock seems far away. The Trouw also referred to the beauty of these gardens: "In 1931 the garden was laid out by her great uncle in English landscape style. All elements of this style are present: ponds, sight lines, views of the landscape behind, winding paths and images. "

It is an honor that De Tuin der Lusten can use theater, dance, visual art and music to paint a picture of the illustrious history of the castle and its inhabitants. Robber knights made way for poets, writers and researchers. The program has been compiled on the basis of this history and several theater makers and artists will be inspired in this green and quiet place by the environment when creating new performances and works of art. In these gardens, the team of De Tuin der Lusten is building an evening program with contemporary acrobatic dance, very refined theatrical circus, and a series of performances and theater projects that not only tell stories about the past, but also give a hint to the future. Of course we have been inspired by the famous poet A.C.W. Staring who inhabited this estate, but mainly through his research in the field of agriculture and horticulture. On this website you will find more information about the different program components.

The French edition of the festival, on May 31st and June 1st, will take place under the name Le Jardin des Délices on the estate of Château de Chamarande in the arts center of the Essonne department, about fifty kilometers south of Paris. The castle is a center for contemporary art and in the gardens you can admire various works of art by, for example, Philippe Ramette, Miguel Egana and Bert Theis. During Le Jardin des Délices, nine Dutch and one French group will play the gardens of the castle here. Soon you can find more information about the program on this website, but write the dates in your diary.

With both editions you can also enjoy the cooking skills of Butifarra. In Vorden you can sit down at De Tafel der Lusten, a dinner in style of the festival, prior to the festival. Tickets for The Garden of Delights and The Table of Delights are available on this website and at Le Jardin des Délices the entrance fee is free.
